Free Pattern: Amigurumi Hatching Easter Chicks

Easter-Spring super easy and quick amigurumi project.

Materials and Tools needed:

1. Acrylic yarn e.g. Lane Cervinia Caprice in YELLOW and WHITE colours
2. In addition small amount of BLACK and ORANGE yarns
3. Hook size 2.5mm
4. Polyfill
5. Stitch marker indicating the end of each row
6. Tapestry needle
7. Scissors

• Finished Size: Approximately 8cm (3in) tall. If you are using different yarn brand or type, use a hook size at least 0.5mm less than suggested on the yarn label (applicable only for acrylic yarn) to create tight stitches.
• All the instructions and abbreviations are given in American (US) terms
• Work in continuous rounds without turning unless otherwise specified in the pattern

BODY

Row 1: With YELLOW YARN create an adjustable ring. sc × 6. Total 6sts

Tighten the adjustable ring.

Row 2: (2sc inc) × 6. Total 12sts

Row 3: (2sc inc, sc × 1) × 6. Total 18sts.

Secure the tail at the adjustable ring.

Row 4: sc × 18. Total 18sts

Row 5: (2sc inc, sc × 5) × 3. Total 21sts

Row 6: sc × 21. Total 21sts

Row 7: sc × 4, (2sc inc, sc × 6) × 2, 2sc inc, sc × 2. Total 24sts

Row 8: sc × 24. Total 24sts

Row 9: (2sc inc, sc × 7) × 3. Total 27sts

Row 10-14: sc × 27. Total 27sts

Row 15: (sc2tog, sc × 7) × 3. Total 24sts.

Stuff the body tightly with polyfill.

Row 16: sc2tog × 12. Total 12sts

Row 17: sc2tog × 6. Total 6sts

Fasten off, secure and hide the tail.

EGGSHELL

Row 1: With WHITE YARN create an adjustable ring. sc × 6, tighten the loop. Total 6sts

Row 2: (2sc inc) × 6. Total 12sts

Row 3: (2sc inc) × 12. Total 24sts. Secure the tail at the adjustable ring.

Row 4: (2sc inc, sc × 3) × 6. Total 30sts

Row 5-8: sc × 30. Total 30sts

Row 9: > slst, [ch4, slst into 2nd ch from hook], dc, hdc, sc, slst × 2, [ch2-slst into 2nd ch from hook], slst × 2, [ch3-slst into 2nd ch from hook], sc, slst, repeat from > another two times.

Note: working into chs are in [brackets], sts not in brackets are worked into the 8th row.

Fasten off, secure and hide the tail.

Place the body into the Eggshell.

 

WINGS (make two)

Row 1: With YELLOW YARN create an adjustable ring*. sc × 6. Total 6sts

Tighten the adjustable ring.

Row 2: (2sc inc) × 6. Total 12sts

Fasten off leaving 15cm (6in) tail and sew them on the sides of the body

EYES: made out of French knots with single strand of BLACK YARN using tapestry needle.

BEAK: made out of straight embroidery stitches creating triangle with double strand of ORANGE YARN using tapestry needle.
